A latte that doesn’t give you the jitters?

Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to read this. Today I (Mr. Lightman) am testing out a drink of the caffeine-free variety. I love coffee but every now and then it’s good to switch it up and what better reason than when the Bestie asks. So as a new thing, she picked a turmeric drink……….yes, turmeric, it’s supposed to be healthy and should go well with me starting to hit the gym again.

While you might be used to having this spice in your Indian curry, don’t worry, it’s not as strong a taste in this recipe till the end. Cause let me tell you, that’s when I tasted it the most and still do (though that may just be the dominant note of ginger). It’s not terrible just really something new so it caught me off guard.

This is also great for people like myself who can’t handle their milk, I used Oatmilk which is my preferred substitute.

THE RECIPE

  1. 1 1/2 cups milk or milk substitute
  2. 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  3. 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  4. 1/4 tsp ginger
  5. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  6. 1 tsp maple syrup
  7. a grind of black pepper

So real quick, the black pepper is supposed to help with absorbing curcumin which is the active ingredient in turmeric.

I also added some sweet homemade whipped cream to pair with it and this took it to the next level! But if you wanna avoid the extra calories you can just froth the milk.

Overall, the drink was a nice surprise, real waker-upper. I suggest not putting as much ginger as we did because the flavor can be a little too strong for some people. That being said, the flavor was pretty mild and sweet before getting to the bottom of the mug, so it’s definitely something that I think most people would enjoy.
